The rain
Yesterday and this morning it was raining. I opened my window wide in my little office and luckily the wind was blowing the other way. I was able to get a great breeze without the raindrops hitting my windowsill. It has been a hectic couple of days for me. My daughter and I have been having our struggles. I let the wind encircle me, as the sounds of the rain falling calmed me. The smell of the new rain was present, and envigorating. The gentle sounds of the wet leaves and the water falling somehow made my daily issues to seem to be so much less pressing. I heartily suggest taking advantage of the next rainfall..

In my Guided Meditation...
I'm not usually the type of person who can meditate. My brain is all over the place! It's amazing how the human brain can think 5 things at once and flit here and there rather than do nothing at all! And so I usually don't try to meditate because I frustrate myself trying, lol.
But today, I had an incredible experience. I went with a friend to a group meditation. The people were very friendly and I felt very at ease. We sat in a rather large room with comfortable chairs placed randomly, in a sort of loose circle, giving us all a great deal of personal space around us. The leader led us into a meditation which I was able to "grab onto" right away.
He asked us to envision standing beside our favorite tree. I have a favorite tree because I see it every day on my walks. It stands at the foot of the little stream I pause at while I stretch before beginning my walks. This is my favorite tree because another large tree fell on it, and this tree holds the whole weight of the other tree. I "feel for it". Sort of how I feel that life lays its burdens on me!!
So the leader of the meditation had us to walk down a path in our minds, and I chose the one I pass every day which runs along side of the stream. It's a very narrow path and in reality it hits a tiny waterfall and then you can't walk any further because the stream hits the pond on the other side of the trail. But the leader had us envision that we created an incredible garden. So in my mind, I bridged the gap in the trail with a little bridge and walked over it (now uncharted territory in reality). I imagined walking down this narrow path, and walking through a natural gate or arch made by the vines. When I passed into this space, I was surrounded by the most incredible place I've ever seen, and I was able to envision it so clearly!
It was a relatively small garden, with large stones and moss for the floor. The garden was circular and completely enclosed by greenery. There were ferns and wild flowers everywhere. The scent of the earth was incredible. There was a "chair" made of 2 large stones, in just the right shape to fit comfortably in. The stream flowed into a waterfall to the left of the entrance, wound around the garden behind the "chair" and flowed into a second waterfall as it left visibility. The sunlight filtered, golden and warm through the opening in the trees overhead , gently falling on the faces of the flowers and gently warming me. I sat in this garden, hearing the flow of the water, and I tell you, I do feel that I was there. The scent and the sounds were incredible.
Later today I went for my walk. I walked up to that tree, touched it warmly, and continued up the path almost hoping that my garden would be there if I pressed deeper into brush... but the stream hit the pond as before, and there was no bridge, just a rusted cover to a gas burner LOL. LOL, ahhhh, reality can be such a kick, huh! So here I am at my computer, sitting next to my indoor water fountain, listening to the sound of the water. Such a similar sound, if I close my eyes...

The Sound of an Indoor-water-fountain provides much needed distraction???
Being a single mother of a teenage girl, I'm sure that many people can sympathize with the daily (let's call it CHALLENGES, yes, that's a good word) challenges that this situation provides for me. I think the most challenging is the dialogue between us. It's not always the peaceful exchange that I would choose.
Sometimes it's best to just go to opposite sides of the house or close a door for some private space to recover. Yet the agitation follows me, I guess that's common. By putting indoor water fountains in many of my rooms, I think it helps by providing much needed distraction. The "noise" is good noise, the gentle gurgling or cascading water is as basic as nature itself. Not noisy enough to cover the sound of all noises in the house...but when I get close enough, that little indoor water fountain gives me just enough distraction to pull my mind away from the negative and into the "flow" of all that is good. I highly recommend it!!!

Can Indoor Water Fountains satisfy the Call of the Wild?!
Recently, I discovered a wonderful patch of woods near my house. Relatively few people seem to know about it, as it's tucked in between streets and houses and a Golf course. You really wouldn't even know it's there. But there are foot paths that exit the woods at various places. To look at it, it isn't very inviting, and I've driven past many times. Something prompted me to roll down my window in my car last year, to ask a woman exiting the woods with 3 dogs, how far that trail goes. Her response led me to check out the trail the next day. Wow! Inside this little hidden treasure is a paradise of trails, streams, a pond, and nature nature nature! I've found this to be my little private retreat when the world gets too busy... which it always seems to do!
Sitting on a rock by the little streams, complete with water falls, I let down my stress. Is it any wonder that throughout my life I have always had indoor water fountains in every room, or at least one indoor water fountain in my bedroom when I was younger?!
Something about the sounds of the movement of water, and even the visual, creates calm. It somehow even reduces the "conjestion" I feel in my brain!! I have one little frog fountain that puts a smile on my face every time I look at it! Can water fountains indoor take the place of nature? First hand, I can tell you, they help!

An Indoor Water fountain for Relieving Stress!
Sometimes I think about life and how we live. It seems very far from what nature intended for us. Sure, I love my TV, my cell phone, the computer and all the other electronics like everyone else, but sometimes it seems that life is just too supercharged and there seems to be no safe place where you feel that you can recharge your own batteries!
It's those times, that we run a bath. It's in that bath, soaking in the warm water, listening to the drops hit the surface, that we feel the stress flowing away, and a calm returning slowly. We connect with the water, we feel focused on it, and freed. We leave from that bath with a smile on our face, feeling very cozy, feeling very relaxed for the first time in the day!
What is it about the water? We came from water, they say we are creatures of the sea!
And so the sound of gently running water is so natural to us, like a friend in a hostile environment. Just the sound of that running water calms us, and brings us back to basics. It's the natural way for us, to find the sea, and put our feet in the water, to let the ebb and flow of the tides whisk away our worries!
In my home I have a few indoor water fountains, one in each room. Though they don't have any moving parts (other than the gently flowing water), I find myself looking at them, my eyes and ears gravitating to the gentle sounds of the cascading water, rippling over the ledge into the rocks. I imagine the stresses of my life just flowing away as the water flows through those decorative water fountains! And the funny thing is, as I imagine this, as I look at a simple indoor water fountain, my stress and irritations just seem to flow away with the water! I suppose that too, is why I gravitate to amusing little decorative water fountains~ little frogs or little children motifs, such light-hearted fun designs which literally lift my heart into a smile :-)
Well, we can't find the ocean in our home, but we can build for ourselves a space which adds some fun, joy and pleasure to our home! A little oasis of relief! You should try it! With water fountains indoor or outdoor!
